I’m with you / did not see the value in this!

Thank you, Sue. Glad you added "value" to the mix.

You nailed this Molly! Agree completely. The root issue is too serious, just to deflect. Let’s get an accountability statement with next steps from the interim CEO / Board before making a joke about it. Also, they chose to spend an (alleged) $2M on this video with ME rather than spend it “fixing” culture. Speaks volumes.

I looked for that number -- $2M!?! Imagine how that investment lands with the junior employees struggling to pay rent.

Ryan just received positive coverage in NY Times for this ad. Coincidence, no? https://archive.ph/JqYGe

Pop Apologists talked about it in their latest episode. Allegedly Amy O’Dell predicted Gwyneth made between $1-2 million: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4wSkkmW0asnHBjCpgTxSyX?si=UZzS58sHQj-aoR9EjlC5RQ&context=spotify%3Ashow%3A2lAfRnwSjb2NjxjtqMy3Wh

Agreed - for a variation of point #3: It's capitalizing on someone else's pain. There are real people involved. Kids too. It's awful. While the newscycle has moved on, the memes are EVERYWHERE. It's so cringe. A better approach would have been just a thoughtful and sensitive comment that explains what's being done and requests to respect the privacy of those involved.

I know there are some who say "they cheated, they deserve it" attitude, but come on. We've all done things we are not proud of. Every human being has. People have to stop with the self-righteous proclamations, because we are all flawed in different ways.

It was funny, but I can’t help but wonder how it’s being received behind closed doors at Astronomer. Once the novelty wears off and reality sets in, will employees start to question the integrity of leadership? If this is how sensitive issues are going to be handled, it leaves a bit of an unsettling impression.

I agree, Molly. It seemed tone deaf and required a stretch to connect Gwyneth Paltrow to Chris Martin when Coldplay had nothing to do with the underlying issues. If I were a major stakeholder of any kind, I would question judgement for not only the ad spend, but the direction they took to sidestep the issue!

I also agree with you on Gwyneth and Ryan...I'm so tired of them both.

Maybe they can still salvage it by laughing at themselves first, then getting down to business and talking next steps. It could look like they've taken the time to really think out the next steps rather than rushing to appease. Or do you think it's too late?

I’d really love for this to happen… true accountability. I’m doubtful. But hopeful!
