EXCELLENT blog Molly - this one really resonated with me and my professional experiences. Reminds me of a time I had to tell leadership “you don’t get to control *why* they’re angry or *what* they’re angry about - you can *only* control your reaction to that anger.”

In my experience, leadership often tries to manage the crisis/audience itself rather than their response.

Love this, Molly! We fundamentally differ regarding enjoyment of telling people they’re wrong (I… definitely don’t hate it; call it my toxic, but hopefully tactful, trait). Seeing people actually learn and change from reflection and understanding is so satisfying. Makes you realize why everything you do is so worth it.

Maybe a topic for the Live but I find it super interesting that you equate telling someone they’re wrong in this context with calling them out. Calling someone out seems confrontational in a way that is inconsistent with your goal/strategy—you’re helping solve a problem, and something they’re doing is getting in the way of the solution, so it’s less of a call out and more of a redirection. Diffusing a conflict rather than adding to it.

(I’m not trying to tell you you’re wrong about telling people they’re wrong, I promise 😂)

I lived through this exact experience at my former employer. To say it deeply affected me personally would be an understatement. I was at the intersection of new and old leaders, global teams executing the launch, and the community/consumers, influencers etc. The company came through ok, I did not. I’m better now, learned extremely valuable lessons that’ve been the catalyst for the work I do now. Thank you for this! 🙏🏼
